Though everything looked hopeless for Army Private Channing Moss, hope was very much alive in him and all the men who played their parts in this series of miracles.

On March 16, 2006, Army Private Channing Moss was patrolling with his unit in Afghanistan when they were attacked. The pick-up truck exploded and Private Moss was impaled by an RPG, a rocket propelled grenade. It entered through one of his hips and was protruding from the opposite hip. However, it did not detonate on impact. This was the first miracle.

The second miracle was that the unit’s only medic, Jared Angell (wonderful name) was with Moss and was able to treat him immediately and to stabilize the grenade so that it wouldn’t move around. He was then transported by helicopter to a medical facility even though Army policy was that he should not be transported because it could lead to the death of the crew members and the loss of the helicopter. Despite this, the crew agreed to take him anyway; miracle number 3.

When they arrived, the medical team, Major John Oh and Major Kevin Kirk, agreed to operate on him despite the risk to themselves. Miracles 4 and 5: It was successfully removed without detonating it. Amazingly a bomb disposal expert, Staff Sgt. Dan Brown, was on the base. He took the unexploded grenade to a bunker and detonated it.

Despite his injuries, Private Moss has recovered and is finishing college. He and all the brave men who risked their lives to save him have been honored by the US Army.

No matter what your faith, this holiday season is a time for Hope. Hope is far more than a wish. In fact, the word means “confident expectation” in Greek. Perhaps hope is something that is activated through us. So let us hope. I invite you to join me in resurrecting your hope. Here are 5 good reasons why:
One: We have sacred worth. You are a miracle – a whole part of the One Great Wholeness we call by the name of God.

Two: We are having a human experience. And even though we’ve forgotten our divine heritage, the Universe is still very much operating according to the plan of Love in our lives.

Three: You are deserving of love. In fact, you are love. Love yourself, and welcome Love into your life in more and more ways.

Four: We are not alone. Living Love (aka God) lives in us and in all. Through the unity that we share with all other beings on this earth adventure, there will be those who will miraculously show up and play their part in our lives according to God’s plan of Love.

Five: On our human adventure, they may be others we meet who have become lost in the human experience and forgotten their unity with Love. Forgive them and let them pass from your heart and they will harmoniously be removed (or remove themselves) from your life.

Dear Fellow Adventurers, let’s resurrect our “confident expectation” together this holiday season and be miracles of hope to others. The world needs us!
