Creating Consciousness to Grow in Presence Power

By Eckhart Tolle

"In ordinary unconsciousness, habitual resistance to or denial of what is creates the unease and discontent that most people accept as normal living... When this resistance becomes intensified through some challenge or threat to the ego, it brings up intense negativity such as anger, acute fear, aggression, depression, and so on. Deep unconsciousness often means that the pain-body has been triggered and that you have become identified with it. Physical violence would be impossible without deep unconsciousness. It can also occur easily whenever and wherever a crowd of people or even an entire nation generates a negative collective energy field.

The best indicator of your level of consciousness is how you deal with life’s challenges when they come. Through those challenges, an already unconscious person tends to become more deeply unconscious, and a conscious person more intensely conscious. You can use a challenge to awaken you, or you can allow it to pull you into even deeper sleep. The dream of ordinary unconsciousness then turns into a nightmare.

If you cannot be present even in normal circumstances, such as when you are sitting alone in a room, walking in the woods, or listening to someone, then you certainly won’t be able to stay conscious when something “goes wrong” or you are faced with difficult people or situations, with loss or the threat of loss. You will be taken over by a reaction, which ultimately is always some form of fear, and pulled into deep unconsciousness. Those challenges are your tests. Only the way in which you deal with them will show you and others where you are at as far as your state of consciousness is concerned, not how long you can sit with your eyes closed or what visions you see.

So it is essential to bring more consciousness into your life in ordinary situations when everything is going relatively smoothly. In this way, you grow in presence power. It generates an energy field in you and around you of a high vibrational frequency. No unconsciousness, no negativity, no discord or violence can enter that field and survive, just as darkness cannot survive in the presence of light.

When you learn to be the witness of your thoughts and emotions, which is an essential part of being present, you may be surprised when you first become aware of the background “static” of ordinary unconsciousness and realize how rarely, if ever, you are truly at ease within yourself. On the level of your thinking, you will find a great deal of resistance in the form of judgment, discontent, and mental projection away from the Now. On the emotional level, there will be an undercurrent of unease, tension, boredom, or nervousness. Both are aspects of the mind in its habitual resistance mode.

So how can we be free of this affliction?

Make it conscious. Observe the many ways in which unease, discontent, and tension arise within you through unnecessary judgment, resistance to what is, and denial of the Now. Anything unconscious dissolves when you shine the light of consciousness on it. Once you know how to dissolve ordinary unconsciousness, the light of your presence will shine brightly, and it will be much easier to deal with deep unconsciousness whenever you feel its gravitational pull.

However, ordinary unconsciousness may not be easy to detect initially because it is so normal.
Make it a habit to monitor your mental-emotional state through self-observation. “Am I at ease at this moment?” is a good question to ask yourself frequently. Or you can ask: “What’s going on inside me at this moment?” Be at least as interested in what goes on inside you as what happens outside. If you get the inside right, the outside will fall into place. Primary reality is within, secondary reality without.

But don’t answer these questions immediately. Direct your attention inward. Have a look inside yourself. What kind of thoughts is your mind producing? What do you feel? Direct your attention into the body. Is there any tension? Once you detect that there is a low level of unease, the background static, see in what way you are avoiding, resisting, or denying life — by denying the Now. With practice, your power of self-observation, of monitoring your inner state, will become sharpened. Excerpted from Eckhart Tolle’s The Power of Now, pages 72-93. ..."

Impermanence

Hello friends... from Denver John

So... a friend was writing to me and mentioned "impermanence"... as I was considering this, I recalled the adage that "Change is the only constant." Like the sky, our consciousness and the world inside and outside of us is in constant change...energy in motion, constantly transforming... and we create illusions of stability and structure in our lives... We create a nest that, at least for a period of time, has a sense of security and structure. Furniture remains in the same spots... except for occasional shifts we decide to make... and for this reason or that, we transition to another space; and work to somehow make it our own new comfort spot...

We see that Life continues even as the various forms within the larger context of Life transform, decay, die, and new births continue... We lament the changing climate conditions and debate how much the changes are our fault, the sun's fault, or just part of what is... We often panic when life shifts quickly and we are thrown quickly into the uncertainty and reality of change and impermanence...

While the Essence of Life may be the closest thing to a still and continuous permanence, our experience and consciousness continues to show shifts. Like the permanent atmosphere above us, the contents of the air changes like the contents of our consciousness.  clouds come and go.... the weather changes... snow, rain, drizzle, clear skies, tornadoes, blizzards, scorching heat... all come and go... extremes seem to be more prevalent...

I suppose we find some solace and peace in understanding the changing nature of Life... some go with what is... some react to change out of fear and wishing to conserve what was or look for someone to blame for the change... rather than accepting the real nature of impermanence...

I suppose most of us enjoy and try to create structure in our lives, yet if we attach ourselves too rigidly to those human-made structures we will surely find ourselves reacting to what is!

So, thanks to my friend [LC] for mentioning "impermanence" and bringing about this reminder to me to hold all things rather lightly with a flexible touch... ready to let go, again, into the present moment!

Love and Namaste.... John

Wednesday

In the meantime… Part I

In the meantime… Part I

Throughout our life’s experiences we have special moments of insight and epiphanies in which we know that life is more than our physical existence.

We do not always experience this knowing or connection to the greater consciousness and source of Life.

Here are a few reminders from past experiences that come to mind, in no particular order:

·      Life is a gift; it is not ‘I’ who breathes, but rather Life breathing through this form called ‘John’…

·      There are unseen guides and guardians that do help us… sometimes in way we know and sometimes in intangible ways…

·      Everything is some density of energy of consciousness…

·      Positive thinking and thoughts produce more harmony and positive feelings…

·      What we place our attention upon tends to grow…

·      When we actually make a decision, Spirit, or the Universe, conspires with us to make it happen…

·      Intention based on Love is a powerful force…

·      We are always more than we think we are…

·      Most things we really do not know for sure…

·      Find a way to accept the present moment…

·      There is no time in the Present Moment of Now…

·      Time and space as we know it are transcended in the infinity of Now…

·      Focusing on the past can be fun or it can be painful… both are fantasies and keep us from our present moment focus…

·      Planning for the future and worry about the future are both trips in fantasy. The former can move us in a direction. And both can distract us from this present moment…

·      There is the experience of light and dark, of joy and sadness; all are part of life’s oneness…

·      Be grateful for the miracle of Mystery and the Source and Sustainer of Life Energy…

·      There are many distractions and inner and outer critics that would keep our spirits oppressed in a decaying energy; Find your way back to this present moment and to Life energy… Call your Spirit back in a moment of renewal…

·      Listen to the intuitive voice, and check out the pops that come…

·      Every seeming crisis is an opportunity to respond with kindness rather than reactions…

·      Do not believe anything you read or hear or see unless it sits with truth in your heart…

·      Laugh out loud at ourselves and the folly and funniness of human behavior…

·      There is a unique sense of Oneness that exists and is felt from time to time; and it is here no matter if we feel it or not…

·      The basic glue of the interconnected organism of existence is Love…

·      Do the best you can, and accept that it is enough…

·      Always choose and teach kindness…

·      There exist many actions and energies that we might see as misguided energies… Let us do our best to bring healing where we can…

·      Respect all of Life

·      Let us forgive ourselves for any shortcomings we think we may have and forgive others who we may think have hurt us in some way…

·      Acceptance is the gateway and Letting go is the power back to the Now…

·      Dreams and Intuitive pops are gifts from our deepest Self… listen and learn and follow…

·      Honor those who have gone before us and those who travel beside us… the paths may be different, yet we all seek the path Home…

·      If we are judging, we aren’t loving…

·      If you feel lost, disconnected, and separated from Life and others, choose to do no harm to yourself or others… and Choose Life!

·      If you don’t know, ask! If you need help, ask! ...

·      An infinite number of possible options and an infinite number of outcomes are always present; our conscious choice co-creates to new nows…

·      There is stillness in the center of all the movement, noise, chaos, and uncertainty…

·      Embrace change, resistance is the child of fear… and fear the parent of disease…

·      Let us love one another…

·      Honor the contents of consciousness whether they are sensations, thoughts, feelings… and know there is the still sky of pure awareness beyond the passing clouds… and the brilliant radiance of Life Energy always above us and within us…

·      Shift Happens…Change is a constant… everything is transforming all the time…

·      First, let go of the obstacles to loving oneself…

·      We are basically pure awareness and will…being and choosing… I am, I do…

·      Let go of what was so that what is and what will be, can be…

·      There’s always more and there’s always less…

May kindness be our guide..... John ...April, 2013

Moving from 'mind' to Consciousness

This is an excellent presentation by David Icke about letting go of fear and the difference between 'mind' boxes and consciousness...

Power of Mind - Thursday Noon Meditation

Thursday Noon Meditation - Mind Power
The noon practice of the Essenes called the Sevenfold Peace is designed to take the expanding consciousness of the morning and evening communions and apply them to areas of everyday living in practical ways.
"Source of Life, who is everywhere, send to all your Spirit of Peace; to our mind, the Essence of true Power..."
There is mind... and then there is Mind... open and ever-expanding...
There is the thinking aspect of mind that helps us plan and do our daily tasks... and in our time, we often get lost in the gyrations, meanderings and associations of the analytical mental processes... can we be too mental?
There is the mind that is aware of feelings, thoughts, and sensations in our body... we might call this the observing aspect of mind... can we identify as the 'observer'?
There is the mind that receives and observes hunches, 'pops,' and intuitions 'out of the blue'....  Can we be open to the intuitive aspect of mind?
There is Mind that is pure awareness without contents of consciousness... just presence... as happens during meditation and being in the 'zone' of the present moment during activities ... Can we find Peace in the Present Moment?
Let us be grateful for every aspect of Mind... perhaps the greatest and most peaceful Power of Mind comes in the stillness of simply Being Here Now... in this moment...
"Source of Life, who is everywhere, send to all your Spirit of Peace; to our mind, the Essence of Present Power..."
Peace be with you!

Many Dwelling Places...

It is written that our brother and spiritual master, Jesus, said, "In my Father's house are many mansions...."
And indeed in the world of worlds and universe of universes, both physical and spiritual, there are many dwelling places...
There are many planes of knowing and consciousness... time collapses into eternity now... as we are being ushered into new realms of awareness...
Treat each person as if they were your favorite Great-great grandfather or grandmother... for in fact they may be...
Treat each other as if all are one and the same as the Divine Source and Mystery of Life and Love... for indeed we are in some way...at some level... One Soul... One Being... Now...
Happy Loving Moment!...

... and welcome to this Present Moment!

Research Survey: Comparisons of Varieties of Spiritual Experiences

Introduction
You have most likely had some type of life experience that took you to a new or different place in your awareness... an experience that expanded your consciousness in some way.  You may or may not have referred to your experience as a spiritual one... and... you knew it was different in some way from your other ordinary life experiences.
Some people are more comfortable than others in sharing their personal experiences. I was talking with a friend who was describing an experience in nature while visiting a family member and she said, "It was almost spiritual" and I took it from the emotional content that she was talking about her sense of being in touch with "something" that was beyond her everyday "normal" experience... although she seemed a bit hesitant about using the word "spiritual."
William James was an avid student of such mystical or religious experiences throughout his lifetime. He was trained as a medical doctor and psychologist, as well as being known as a philosopher, writer, and educator. James published a seminal work in 1902 entitled, "The Varieties of Religious Experience" which continues to be reprinted due to its ongoing popularity and heuristic value.
Survey
In light of James' work, the following anonymous and confidential survey is intended as a global research project to collect personal experiences and demographics that will aid in comparing various types and characteristics of spiritual, mystical, or religious phenomena. The intent of this project is to both give you the opportunity to share these special moments in your life and provide some details for analyzing and comparing experiences in specific ways. The results are to be published in a report or booklet format which, hopefully, will add contemporary data in the study of consciousness, in general, and of spiritual experiences in particular. Comparing various spiritual experiences will be conducted with attention to both contrasts and similarities in experiences.
We know that some may not choose to take the time to help with this project and some will choose to participate. We hope if you have read this far that the subject interests you and you will choose to help in our research. For your participation, you will be provided with a copy of the results in whatever form it takes. We will collect the data in an objective manner as is possible realizing we all have preconceptions and assumptions we bring to any endeavor.
If you are choosing to participate and prefer to share this information in person or by phone, or if you have specific questions before proceeding, please contact, John Hutchinson at:  JOHN@SUNHUTCH.com or call +1 484 685-0549 and leave a message with your number, first name, location or time zone, and the best part of the day to call you. Note: A little about John
I have been interested in the exploration and experience of spiritual experience for most of my life. Recently, I reviewed some of the work by William James and decided it might be a good time to do a contemporary version of his research findings. Thus, the creation of the current survey came to be.
My own bias and experience suggests that the importance of spiritual experience is a present attention to what is right Now. I have been blessed with numerous "spiritual experiences" that have provided me with an assurance and "knowing" regarding the existence of the spiritual realm ...of pure awareness and being... the realm of consciousness beyond our everyday thoughts and forms.
Communicating about the mysterious or ineffable aspects of this "spiritual" realm is a paradox of sorts. So the task of collecting data about "spiritual experiences" is easy if we find those willing to take some time to reflect and share their experience. Reporting the shared experiences is also easy. The difficulty may rest in one's interpretation and clarifying the meaning of the descriptive words used.
I do not pretend to be William James or anyone else. Simply a being who is curious and wishing to provide any contemporary insight into that "spiritual" realm which is beyond time and beyond the 'English' symbols I use to do my best at communicating.
