Practical responses for dealing with upsets and obsessions... Part 1

Greetings again... friends, family, and other acquaintances...

I recently sent you an email with the following question:

What method or practices do you use to return your awareness to a more centered state?

Here are some responses I have received so far:
----------------------------
"Good morning John,
Meditation or prayer to get peace of mind first and foremost helps me
when I am upset or obsessing. Having a good cry or a good laugh helps
relieve the tension. Also doing something physical yet is gentle to myself
such as Qigong or pilates or yoga stretches to release tension. Get a hug from a friend. Soak in my hot tub until I look like a raisin.
I use distractions such as taking a walk or a hike in nature, or I go out
dancing or out to a restaurant to socialize, or make a great meal (the kitchen can be my place of zen)..watch an inspirational movie or listen to a motivational speaker.

Get a massage. If budget allows, some retail therapy at the local Goodwill.
I either draw or paint something, putter in my garden.
Give myself small rewards of chocolate or add a few dollars into my travel
jar when I have a certain amount of time I do not obsess about a person, thing, or place..
Talk therapy -either with friends or group therapy. Ask for advice. Ponder on that advice. Find other positive thoughts to replace the obsessive thoughts.  Reward myself again...Chocolate...
Do something nice for a friend.
Read a good book. Go on the internet or to the library to
research the topic I may be upset or obsessing about.
Buy myself some flowers or plant some flowers.
Take a bunch of vitamins thinking I might be low on something
that I am feeling upset due to a chemical imbalance or a vitamin
deficiency..
Take a drive, take a vacation, plan a vacation or
......just get a good night's sleep..
This is what I do when I am bothered..." LLL, Oregon

"Hi John.....what a wonder-full invitation to share spirit...who is the real author, no need for anonymity!

The tool I use is an ancient Buddhist technique called Tonglen....you breath into your heart center anything that needs transforming. Picture the issue in a black cloud, have the courage to breathe it into your heart center (knowing you can never take it on) and breathe out as white light and love to the thing in question.  Do it as long and often as you like and it's guaranteed. Been doing it many years and love the simplicity of it.  What I've learned from studying Heart Math is the scientific measuring of the heart's electromagnetic field.....it's huge and way "huger" than the electromagnetic field of the brain!  The ego doesn't like it much, but it'll just have to get used to it! Heart trumps brain every time!  The scientists still can't pinpoint exactly how the heart starts beating in  a fetus, the closest they can surmise is that it actually starts itself, way before the first brain cell is developed! Way cool.

Speaking of Namaste, I just got a t-shirt that says "Namaste y'all".....
Much love to you from the Ohio Hillbilly on the path!" ... KSG, Ohio

Hi John,
A very interesting  question ,and one i have been paying attention to.
Here is something i read in a Doreen Virtue book, Goddesses and Angels.

She says that a cledon is a message from the universe which does not seem directly related to you but somehow answers your questions. She says you should go out in nature, present the question and watch for what you can see.
For example  i went on a walk to ask about a man who had been very verbally abusive to me. i saw the following cledons:

1.) a robin sitting on a dead tree stump. there  were lots of healthy trees and grass filled with juicy worms, but the robin stayed on the stump. I thought."Who is living in the dead past and not enjoying new possibilities?"

2.) i saw  a  bag of garbage on the ground. The message seemed to be."Some people  just dump their garbage anywhere."

3.) There was a young man who was riding a ride-on mover. As he approached me he looked at my face, and  stopped the mower until  i had safely passed. I thought, "Wise young man. He makes sure the other person feels safe before proceeding. My (now former) friend did not do so."

4.) I later received a phone call from a girl friend about a completely different person who had been abusive to her.  There were so many similarities in the situations! As I helped my friend to understand that her former boyfriend   was abusive  because  he was jealous of her success , I understood that this was a factor in my problem also.

The cledons seemed to give  clear messages as to how to interpret what was going on in my life. This is because everything is connected, and if we pay attention we can always see messages which relate to our issues." ....CN

[[[The above from CN is similar to the Native American Medicine Walk in Nature in which the participant would take certain concerns or questions with them as they walked through nature and allow Great Spirit to speak with him or her in a quite natural and intuitive way... This also is the forerunner of the Fusion13 Rune Readings that I use and share with others... jh]]]

Thank you for these responses and look forward to more to share... I will add my favorites in Part 2....
Namaste,
John

Intention & Blessing - Meditation Tip

And today we want to share with you one of the easiest yet also most powerful things you can do to elevate your meditation and your life:

Blessings.

Okay, first thing's first: the word 'blessing' means different things to different people, so let's first agree that you're free to interpret it in whichever way you want…

Whether it's in a spiritual, religious or even purely scientific context.

Because what's most important here is your intention.

When you initiate a blessing, you're channeling energy from a source greater than you, e.g. the planet or the Universe.

This both strengthens your connection to your higher self and raises your vibrations, allowing you to attract more of what you want and less of what you don't.

During your meditation today, follow these steps to perform a blessing on yourself:

1. Depending on your beliefs, ask your desired source of energy for a blessing. You can ask the Universe, or God, or even your spiritual self. In this case there is no right or wrong energy source; there is only what works for YOU.

2. Visualize an infinite stream of energy flowing from its source and into your body. Feel how this energy empowers you to live your purpose and manifest your ideal life.

3. If you're meditating at night, lie down on your pillow and drift into deep sleep as the energy courses through your body. You'll wake up feeling refreshed, focused and of course blessed...

4. If you're meditating in the morning, go through your day recalling the energy you were empowered with. This simple act of visualization will give you an instant pick-me-up whenever you need that extra dose of inspiration or energy.

Meditation Tip: The Connection Exercise

The Connection Exercise

...the following is shared from www.OmHarmonics.com

Meditation is a powerful tool for aligning with universal energy, and feeling more connected to your environment and the people surrounding you.
Want to be in a constant state of flow? Have a more positive mindset? Empathize with your friends and co-workers?
Just follow these steps the next time you sit down to meditate:
  1. Close your eyes and visualize a source of energy streaming down from your crown chakra on the tip of your head, moving down from your spine, rooting itself below your feet and then expanding outwards.
    .
  2. Imagine this energy flowing into your surroundings, starting from the room or the area you're sitting in, and expanding to your city, country, continent and the world.
    .
  3. Visualize yourself sending out love and positive energy to the entire world.
Remind yourself that feeling connected enriches your life and energizes you. It positively charges you so you can take on the day feeling blissful, accomplishing goals with ease and feeling a sense of love and connection within everything you do.

In Addition:
Want to stay in a state of connectedness even after you meditate? Bestselling spiritual author Neale Donald Walsch recommends the following waking meditation exercise:

The next time you're in a public place and you see something or someone who makes you angry or uncomfortable (for instance an inconsiderate person who cuts the line at the grocery store), just tell yourself… "There I go again, being inconsiderate."

Modify that sentence according to the scenario. For instance if you encounter a rude bus driver, tell yourself "There I go again, being rude".

The simple act of thinking these words will remind you that we are all in fact connected - and that what one person experiences or does is a part of a joint consciousness, embracing us all.

Meditation Tip - Creative Visualization

This meditation tip is shared from www.OmHarmonics.com

Creative visualization.

Creative visualization can be described as a supercharged daydream - you visualize a specific scenario or outcome in your mind, and use that energy and emotion to bring it into your physical reality.

According to Shakti Gawain, creative visualization can help you channel energies in good directions, strengthen your self-esteem, and even improve your health.

So why not try creative visualization as you meditate today?

The 3 BIG rules of
creative visualization

There are many rules and tips for effective creative visualization, but we believe these 3 are by far the most important:

BIG rule #1: Infuse emotion.

For instance if you're visualizing yourself on holiday in London, picture the smile on your face as you're riding a double decker bus. Feel the crisp breeze blowing through your hair. Hear the chimes of Big Ben. Make it as real as possible. Have fun with it!

BIG rule #2: Own it.

Visualize that you already possess the object or scenario you want. If you're visualizing a holiday in London, tell yourself that you already have the flight tickets. If you're visualizing having a barbecue in a huge mansion, picture yourself already owning that mansion. In doing this you're actually programming your subconscious to make it happen.

BIG rule #3: Be persistent.

Your subconscious needs constant reminders, so visualize your dreams or goals every day.
Do it in the morning, do it before bedtime, do it at your lunch break. And don't be too surprised when your life starts changing in amazing ways.

Meditation Tip - Forgiveness Exercise

Negative charges and the Forgiveness Exercise
...This tip for meditating was distributed by www.OmHarmonics.com

Negative charges…

Negative charges are negative emotions that stick with you after an encounter with someone or something. It could be a misunderstanding with a co-worker… Or an argument with your partner… Or even a stranger who cut you off on the freeway.

And just like an electrical current in a battery, that charge can stick with you for a really long time.
And it can spoil the flow of your day, even your week.

You can't fully focus on your work. Distractions and annoyances upset you more than usual. It's almost like there's something blocking out your inner brilliance.

According to Tony Robbins, negative charges even damage your physical health.

The answer? … Forgiveness.

According to Dr. Fred Luskin, author of Forgive for Good, letting go of a grudge can slash your stress levels by up to 50%. Studies show it even improves your energy, mood, sleep quality and physical vitality. Today's tip is a simple 3-step exercise that will help you release your negative charges in minutes:

The Forgiveness Exercise...
  1. The first step is to visualize the source of your negative charge. Who gave you this negative charge? Jog your memory, and visualize this person and what they did to you. Was it your spouse? A co-worker? Build a clear and detailed image of them in front of your mental eye.
    .
  2. Next, ask this person to forgive you… and visualize them accepting your apology. Yes, it may seem strange that you're asking the person who upset you for forgiveness. But there's a good reason for this: it reminds you that we are all connected, and that what one person does affects everyone.
    .
  3. Finally, forgive this person. Once you've visualized this person forgiving you, picture yourself sincerely forgiving them for what they've done. Visualize the negative charge dissipating as you do this.

'Popimage' Quiet Reflection

Sitting in relaxed quietness...

Aware of breath... being one with breathing...

Stilling the mind into awareness of the present...

Invite an image to pop into your awareness that has a message for this day...

Accept the first image that comes into consciousness... whether it is visual... a sense or feeling in your body... or even just the first thought...

Just be with your 'popimage' for as long as you wish...

...In Peace and Love... H'tuchi

Later you may wish to associate and work with the meaning and significance of your 'popimage'...

Note: To deflect any confusion, the writer is sometimes called H'tuchi and sometimes called 'John'... The H'tuchi label is chosen at times to remind us that we are not who we necessarily think we are... In one reality we are One... and nameless...

"We are all-ways more than we thought we were."

"The shift in consciousness happens the moment you say 'yes' to what is, because the entire structure of the egoic mind-made self lives on resistance and opposition and on making the now into an enemy. The beautiful thing is that we can step out of thousands of years of collective conditioning, without needing more time to step out of it."

..."The aliveness in the body is an intelligent aliveness, and the wonderful thing is that when you direct attention there, it removes attention away from thinking. You cannot feel the aliveness of the inner body and think a lot, because consciousness is taken out of thinking and moves into the body. Feel that, just feel... " - Eckhart Toll

Meditation and Tapping - "Tap on this!"

“Tap on this!”

Today during meditation, an old and new way emerged.

For some time I have been aware that there are areas of our consciousness that know better what we may need than the egoic thinking processes that are conditioned by external stimulus and internal wants. Spiritual teachings throughout the ages have been clear about letting go into the present... however this may have been stated.

Recently I have been studying and practicing one form of energy system balancing called EFT (Emotional Freedom Technologies - http://www.emofree.com/). By the way the EFT video library and course are quite good. EFT uses a system of tapping to reset and balance our energy system.

Today during meditation I was being aware of the sensations in my body and breathing into each sensation as it arose… sometimes referred to as relaxation meditation. Then it seemed appropriate to simply tap with fingers and thumb cupped together on each area of my body that called for attention… allowing my body and larger unconscious to direct the action.

I tapped on an area until it seemed ‘finished, then I would just be present until the next area presented itself… continuing to breathe into each tap and the silence… There was an awareness of not only subtle ‘calls’ for attention, but also some rather noticeable energy streams and shifts… just allowing the ‘wise expanded consciousness’ to be my guide.

The result was not only relaxation, but also a more inclusive ‘healing’ effect producing an overall sense of well-being, harmony, and presence…. My intention is to stay present with the sense of harmony within and be aware of when it may be pulled off balance… then, listen for what to do about that …in the present moment of course!
