The 21 meditations
were designed to begin with Friday’s sunset and continue until the following
Friday Noon communion… they would then begin once again at sundown and go
forward on a continuing basis.
100 years or
so before the time of Jesus of Nazareth as well as during his lifetime, the
Essenes were an ascetic group of followers of Judaism who left Jerusalem and
lived communally in the desert areas away from the cities and rules of the
Romans and other sects of Judaism. The Dead Sea [Qumran] Scrolls are usually
attributed to the Essenes. Some suggest that Jesus of Nazareth spent time with
the Essenes before entering his time of public teaching and ministry.
There are 3
meditations each day. The morning and evening meditations were focused on
lifting awareness to the higher realms of consciousness while the noon-time
meditations of the Essenes called the Sevenfold Peace were designed to take the
expanding consciousness of the morning and evening communions and apply them to
areas of everyday living in practical ways.
