WHO AM I?
Along the path, there are a few questions that arise, both from within, and from others.
From within we may hear the questions:
• Who am I really?
• What’s missing here? I don’t feel quite all together.
• What’s ‘wrong’ with me?
• Why do I feel this way?
• When will I know who I really am?
• When will I know my purpose; what I really want to do?
And others may ask us:
• What’s your name?
• What do you do?
• Where are you from?
• How would you describe yourself?
• What do you hope to accomplish?
• …and on and on…
All these questions and more continue an internal process to define some basic identity about who we are, sometimes more consciously than at other times.
Where we are right now is always one place to begin.
Begin a list… or begin writing your answer to the question: “Who am I?”
Whenever you pause, ask yourself again, “Who am I, really?”
Then continue to ask yourself this question and write down more answers that come to mind.
Spend at least 15 minutes inquiring within and recording your responses and reactions.
Look over what you have written.
Then ask and answer the question, “If I am not who I think I am, what is left?”
We all have varying experiences. We all play a number of different roles in our lives. We are all “human beings” I will assume. Now, If you had to state in one sentence the answer to the question… “Who am I?”… what would you write?
This is a beginning. And we have all done this in one form or another throughout our lives I would guess. There are no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ answers. It is an inquiry into Self. This exercise is designed to bring more to consciousness at this time.
So, we may also ask in a more general sense, “What does it mean to you to be a ‘human being’?”
If you wish some reflection or feedback to what you have written, feel free to share it with me at: John@sunhutch.com …All will remain confidential.
